Simms, Iona E

(June 18, 1936 - September 5, 2008)

Iona E. Simms, 72, of Beloit, died Friday September 5, 2008 at Beloit Memorial Hospital. She was born June 18, 1936 in Carter Co. Kentucky the daughter of James B. & Frieda G. (Klaus) Heaberlin. Iona married Richard L Simms on June 26, 1954 in Beloit. She was a graduate of Beloit High School. Iona retired in 1989 after 20 years of service at Beloit Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed music, sewing, crafts and painting. Iona had been a member of the Pythian Sisters at one time and had helped with many cancer drives in the area. Iona is survived by her husband: Richard of Beloit; 3 daughters: Rose M. Schoon of Beloit, Virginia Simms of Beloit and Dona E. Simms of Beloit; 7 grandsons: Keith & Kyle Schoon, Cody Smith, Jason (Jessie) Shephard, Chris, Dustin and Chad Powell; 2 granddaughters: Rebecca & Laura Trewyn; 10 Great Grandchildren; 2 sisters: Helen Olcott of Bardstown, KY, Mary E. (Russell) Moffett of Butte, NE and a brother: Daniel (Joyce) Abbott of New Castle, VA. She was predeceased by 2 daughters: Karen Simms and Carol Powell, 3 brothers: Frank, Warren, and Edwin Abbott; her parents Gladys and H.R. Abbott and her adopted parents James and Frieda Heaberlin. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM on Tuesday September 9, 2008 at Rosman Uehling Kinzer Funeral Home. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery.
